School Programs

The WH PTA funds many programs that enrich the lives of our children and build resiliency in every student. These programs are ultimately made possible by our amazing parent volunteers and monetary support from donors.

Walnut Heights Nature Area

The Walnut Heights Nature Area is a beautiful 3 acre piece of land located right behind the school. It was originally established in 1969 with the goal of teaching environmental education. This outdoor learning space contains an Edible Garden, Pollinator Garden, Dry Garden, Amphitheater, several teaching spaces, and a pond, and is cared for through the time and money of community volunteers, Walnut Heights PTA and the Walnut Creek School District. For more information, contact Sindhu Nair at s.sindu.n@gmail.com.

Student Clubs

Walnut Heights has 4 student clubs for the 2023/2024 school year - Nature Club, Green Team, Financial Literacy, and the Persian club. Clubs are run by parents or teachers after school and are funded by the PTA. For more information, contact Azam Rasuli at az.rasuli@gmail.com.

Reflections

Reflections is a national PTA judged art program open to all students. Children are invited to write a poem or essay, paint, draw, sculpt, photograph, make a film, create an original song or dance, and more! Students can create art in any or all of the 6 categories: Film Production, Visual Arts, Music, Photography, Dance Choreography, or Literature. View our Reflections page to watch a video about the program, review the rules, and submit your child's entry. Entries are due Tuesday, October 10 by 3pm. Questions? Contact whpta.reflections@gmail.com.

Philanthropic Work

Walnut Heights PTA supports two philanthropic projects each year - Community Service Day and Kids Against Hunger.

Community Service Day is a city-wide day of giving providing our families an opportunity to give back to our community through projects on or off-site.  On-site projects this year will focus on campus beautification and possibly more projects in our Nature Area.

With Kids Against Hunger, community volunteers and parents assist kids in grades 2-5 as they measure, assemble, weigh and seal meal packages. TK-1 grade Cougars create cards of support that are inserted into the boxes of meal packages. In recent years meals have been sent via Convoy of Hope and the US military to Poland for distribution to Ukrainians in need.

Science Fair

Walnut Heights PTA partners with our science teacher to fund and run our school Science Fair.

Multicultural Programing

Walnut Heights PTA coordinates with parents, teachers and specialists to recognize traditions and holidays that are important to the members of our internationally diverse community. This includes music, arts and crafts led by parents during lunch recess or coordinated in-school activities with our specialists. Our draft calendar for this upcoming year includes activities for Hispanic Heritage Month, Jewish New Year, Diwali, Day of the Dead, Slavic New Year, Lunar New Year, Persian New Year, Black History Month and Japanese Children's Day. In addition, our entire community comes together every December for an International Heritage Night containing a potluck, children's art and a children's performance. For more information on how you can get involved, please contact Sasha Milic at ulzan05@gmail.com
